So Why Did I Go To Journalism School?

Some interesting data rolled across my computer screen the other day.

The average administrative assistant in the United States makes $44,000 a year. The United States Department of Labor estimates there are 1.36 Americans who work as administrative personnel.

I always promised myself I wouldn’t be one of those bloggers who just rewrote press releases. God know there are plenty of them cluttering up the Blog-o-sphere.

The information all came to light because Wednesday was Administrative Professionals Day. It’s the unofficial holiday that was formerly known as Secretaries Day. The day has expanded to more appropriately reflect the people who provide necessary support for offices to survive.

The list includes secretaries, administrative assistants, receptionists and other administrative support professionals.

Washington, D.C. has the most administrative assistants. And if you’re in it for the money, New Jersey is the place to be. The average administrative assistant pulls in a whopping $54,000 a year.

OK, tell me again. Why did I go to journalism school?
